Update on the Egg Donation program

Last week, DH and I went to the seminar in Atlanta for some information and a Q & A session. We learned so much that day. Well, this afternoon I received an e-mail from them claiming they have looked over my profile and would like to go through with the screening process. I believe they are awaiting my medical records from my PCP and the Ob/gyn. So, when I get my next period, I need to call them to schedule an appt and start the screening process. AF is due this weekend.

My understanding is they will take blood and do a vaginal u/s on the third day of my cycle. They will also schedule for me to meet with a psychologist to do an evaluation on myself and DH. They basically want to make sure that we both are on the same page as far as going through with this. I will also meet with a genetics counselor to go over my family's medical history. If I pass this part of screening, they will decide if my eggs will be placed in the frozen bank (which I can choose when to start the process of retrieval) or to a recipient awaiting my eggs.

Once the screening process is complete, I will start the cycle. They may place me on BCP's to get me started and then add injections afterwards to start the maturation of the eggs in all of the follicles. After about 9-11 days of injections, blood work, and u/s, they will decide on the retrieval date and I will take a trigger shot 36 hours before the procedure. I will be under anesthesia during the retrieval. They will stick a needle through the vaginal wall to the ovaries and suck out the eggs.

Here is a link that better describes the entire process, including screening - http://www.rba-online.com/publish/article_68.php

My only problem with this is that they recommend that a couple wait to TTC for 3 months after the process. That means it may be 6 months before we can try...that is of course I am not pregnant, now!
